Music Hall in Benitachell

The oldest in the place
2016

El Poble Nou de Benitatxell call for a competition for a new cultural center with a music hall for 300 people as the main element of the building. On the competition plot lives a magnificent ancient Ficus tree that becomes the center piece of the proposal.

The walls of the new building embrace the old Ficus tree, and in their falling back they create a public space in which the majestic tree stands against the background. An unexpected square appears, of great character and clearly to become a node for the activity on the town center, now giving the possibility for a meeting point, entertainment and restaurants. The architecture builds a place in which the lead is not the building itself.

The movement of the walls gives room to the placement of the main staircase accessing the music hall in a space of dramatic volume thus creating a unique outdoor profile, and a pleasant experience through the openness and views on the inside. A precisely placed cut dropping unnecessary square meters, in an almost direct transposition of the space required for communication.
